Lagavulin 8 Years Old, released in 2016 to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary, was such a huge success that it became a permanent addition to their range—a decision that makes us very happy!
The story of Lagavulin 8 Years Old dates back to the late 19th century, when Alfred Barnard, writing for Harper's Weekly Gazette, set out on a journey to explore the distilleries of Scotland, England, and Ireland. His trip lasted two years (1885–1887), during which he visited 167 distilleries and wrote a 500-page book. Naturally, Barnard also made it to Islay and visited Lagavulin. The whisky he tasted on that occasion was an 8-year-old Lagavulin, which he described as “exceptionally fine,” while of the distillery he wrote: “No prettier or more romantic spot could have been chosen for a distillery.”
