Producer: Highland Park
Peating: Low
Aroma: On the nose, we find notes of lemon, green grass, vanilla, and cloves, with a slight hint of sweet smoke.
Taste: On the palate, the peat smoke is more pronounced. There are also notes of heather, black pepper, honey, and barley malt with a touch of citrus.
Finish: Medium persistence, with notes of toasted cereals, citrus peel, cloves, and aromatic peat smoke, along with a light balsamic note.
The Orkney Islands, in the far north of Scotland, are steeped in Norse folklore. In fact, they only became Scottish territory in 1472 thanks to a marriage—or rather, to the non-payment of the dowry for the wife of James III, Margaret of Denmark. It is therefore no surprise that the Highland Park distillery decided to dedicate some of its releases to the myths of the Scandinavian peninsula. The Dragon Legend is a tribute to the mythical Sigurd, who, after killing the fearsome dragon Fafnir, drank its blood, gaining wisdom and prophetic abilities.
Highland Park Dragon Legend is a lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky matured in European oak ex-sherry casks. This special release contains a higher-than-usual proportion of Orkney peat.
